Deb Steele, MA, ATR Deb Steele is a master’s-level registered art therapist, practicing artist, and experienced retreat facilitator with a lifelong passion for the healing power of creativity and connection. For sixteen years, she served as the Director of Patient and Family Support Services at the Dartmouth’s Norris Cotton Cancer Center in Lebanon, NH. During her tenure, She helped design and lead a suite of integrative therapies—massage, music and art therapy, Tai Chi, and expressive writing—created to support the emotional and spiritual well-being of individuals undergoing cancer treatment. She also co-facilitated six monthly cancer-related support groups, offering compassionate guidance to patients and their families during some of life’s most vulnerable moments.
Deb’s professional work is deeply influenced by her own journey as a breast cancer survivor. Diagnosed twice, she has experienced the full arc of treatment—surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation—and now lives cancer-free. Her personal experience gives her a profound empathy for others navigating a diagnosis, as well as a fierce commitment to helping survivors reclaim joy, purpose, and peace during and in the aftermath of treatment and recovery. In addition to her own journey, Deb was a devoted caregiver to both of her parents during their battles with cancer, further deepening her understanding of the complex emotional landscape surrounding illness and recovery.
Today, Deb finds balance and inspiration in her home in the Upper Valley, where she lives with her husband Pete. She spends her time painting with watercolors, creating collage art, walking in the woods, and practicing meditation. She volunteers at the AVA Gallery and Art Center in Lebanon, NH, and teaches art and writing workshops for women through WISE of the Upper Valley. An avid traveler, Deb enjoys exploring new cultures and visiting friends and family across the U.S. and around the world.
Deb brings to Rebecca’s Journey not only her artistic skill and therapeutic experience, but a gentle strength and wisdom born from her own lived experience—a heartfelt understanding of what it means to survive, to heal, and to thrive.
